37 St Giles Naming Competition | Terms and Conditions
  1. The Promoter

The promoter of this competition is Christ Church College, Oxford (the “Promoter”), in partnership with Blenheim Chalcot, who will be working with Christ Church to transform the existing 37 St Giles building into an innovation hub (the “Centre”).

  1. The Competition

    2.1 The title of the competition is the 37 St Giles Naming Competition.
    2.2 The purpose of the competition is to select a name that reflects the Centre’s mission of fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
    2.3 The selected name shall be adopted as the Centre's official name; however, the Promoter reserves the right to adopt a different name in the future if necessary.

  2. How to Enter

    3.1 The competition will run from 09:00 GMT on 8th November 2024 to 23:59 GMT on 22nd November 2024 (the "Closing Date").
    3.2 All entries must be submitted by the Closing Date through the provided online form link. Late entries will not be considered.
    3.3 Only one entry is permitted per participant. Joint submissions or entries on behalf of others are not allowed.
    3.4 Participants must provide the following information:
    • Full name
    • University email address
    • Their suggested name for the Centre
    • A rationale (up to 250 words) explaining the significance of the suggested name

     3.5 By submitting an entry, participants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
     3.6 Participants consent to Blenheim Chalcot having access to their shared personal data due to its role in processing the competition submissions on behalf of the Promoter.

  1. Judging Process

    4.1 A judging panel comprising three representatives from Blenheim Chalcot, three representatives from Christ Church College, and the Dean of Christ Church (who will hold the casting vote) will review the entries.
    4.2 Entries will be assessed on a blind basis, with judges casting their votes without knowledge of the students' identities. Judging will be based on each entry’s alignment with the Centre’s mission, with each judge casting one vote. A majority vote will determine the winner.
    4.3 If none of the submitted names meet the desired criteria, the panel reserves the right to modify or create a name.
    4.4 The Governing Body of Christ Church College must approve the winning name before the announcement.

  2. Eligibility

    5.1 The competition is open to current students of the University of Oxford, including students of undergraduate and post-graduate programmes. Verification may be required.
    5.2 Only one entry is permitted per person.
    5.3 The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any participant whose conduct is deemed contrary to the spirit of the competition.

  3. Winner Announcement

    6.1 The winner will be contacted via the email address submitted during the competition and announced after the Governing Body’s approval.
    6.2 The winner’s name will be publicly announced in advance through social media, the College's website, and other appropriate communication channels. The winner will be included in this publicity, subject to their prior consent. The name will be officially unveiled at the launch event.
    6.3 If the winner cannot be contacted, the Promoter reserves the right to reassign the prize to an alternative eligible participant.
    6.4 The judging panel’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome.

  4. Prize

    7.1 The prize for the competition consists of up to five leading candidates being offered paid summer internships with Blenheim Chalcot. This includes paid accommodation in London, if required, in proximity to Blenheim Chalcot’s White City offices.
    7.2 The overall winner of the competition will also receive a cash prize of £2,000.
    7.3 All prizes are non-transferable and can only be claimed by the selected participants. There are no cash alternatives or value-in-kind substitutes for the prizes.
    7.4 Eligibility for the internship is subject to UK employment law and associated regulations.

  5. Limitation of Liability

The Promoter will not be liable for any loss, damage, or injury resulting from participation in the competition or acceptance of the prize, except in cases of negligence by the Promoter.

  1. Ownership of Entries and Intellectual Property

    9.1 By submitting an entry, participants assign all intellectual property rights to the suggested name to the Promoter. The Promoter will retain all rights and ownership of the entries and associated intellectual property.
    9.2 Participants agree to waive any moral rights in connection with their submissions, allowing the Promoter to use, edit, display, and publish the winning entry and any other submissions in various media formats without additional consent or compensation.
    9.3 Participants acknowledge that the Promoter may use the winning name and other entries for promotional purposes and in connection with the competition, including but not limited to marketing and publicity materials.
    9.4 By participating in the competition, participants confirm their understanding that their submissions may be publicly disclosed and that they will not be entitled to any further compensation beyond any stated prizes.

  2. Data Protection and Privacy

    10.1 Personal data submitted during the competition, including participants' names, university email addresses, and college affiliations, will be processed solely for the purpose of administering the competition, in line with the Promoter’s privacy policy. The university email address will be used to validate participant identity as a student and for future correspondence.
    10.2 Participant data will be retained only as long as necessary to administer the competition and will be deleted thereafter, except where participants have opted in to receive future marketing communications from the Promoter regarding updates about the College and talent opportunities from Blenheim Chalcot.
    10.3 Participants will have the option to opt in to receive future marketing communications as part of the competition entry. All future correspondence will include an option to opt out.
    10.4 The system will use email addresses to validate participant eligibility and ensure that only one entry is submitted per email address. Participants will be notified if a name has already been suggested by someone else.
    10.5 By accepting these terms and conditions, participants acknowledge and agree to the Promoter's privacy and retention policy, which outlines how personal data will be handled.

  3. General

    11.1 The Promoter reserves the right to suspend, cancel, or amend the competition as necessary.
    11.2 These terms and conditions are governed by English law, and any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
